Dignitary Fellows

Eligibility Criteria

This is the highest fellowship honour of the association. It is reserved for accomplished people in their field, and is conferred only after nomination and expert review — not open enrolment, and not free for all.

1. Exceptional standing in the field

   Nominees must hold recognised standing in science, technology, public policy, institutional leadership, or a closely related professional domain. This typically includes senior appointments, leadership of major programmes or institutions, or a sustained record of expert contribution that peers regard as outstanding.

2. Significant national or international recognition

   Evidence of recognition beyond the nominee’s immediate workplace is required. This may include national or international awards, fellowships of other learned societies, high-level appointments, invitational keynotes, published influence, or comparable honours.

3. A distinguished and sustained career

   The fellowship is intended for professionals with a long record of contribution — ordinarily a career spanning two or more decades. The emphasis is on depth, consistency, and leadership over time, not early-career promise alone.

4. Demonstrable impact

   Nominees should show clear impact on science, technology, education, industry, or public policy — through research outcomes, institutional reform, capacity building, policy influence, innovation adopted at scale, or other measurable contributions.

5. Integrity and alignment with TSSTA’s mission

   Candidates must uphold professional ethics consistent with TSSTA’s commitment to research excellence, technological advancement, and sustainable development. The fellowship is granted only to individuals whose standing strengthens the reputation of the Society.

6. Formal nomination

   Self-registration alone does not confer Dignitary Fellowship. A candidate must be nominated through the approved TSSTA process — typically by the Board, a senior fellowship committee, or authorised nominators — before any review can begin.

Selection Process

Meeting the criteria does not guarantee award of the fellowship. Every nomination follows the same review path.

1. Nomination

   An eligible candidate is formally nominated with supporting documentation of career achievements, recognition, and impact.

2. Expert board review

   A board of experts sits to examine each nomination against the eligibility criteria, the nominee’s professional record, and the standards of the Society.

3. Recommendation

   Only those recommended by the board after review may proceed. The board may decline, defer, or request further information on any nomination.

4. Conferment

   Recommended candidates are conferred the DFTSSTA designation and issued a verifiable membership certificate. Associated dues or fees, where applicable, are communicated only after recommendation.
